Minnesota’s Natural REsources

St. Croix River & Mississippi River can effectively change the trajectory of the black youth community in the state of Minnesota.

The Rucker Family Foundation exists for one primary purpose; TO FOREVER CHANGE THE WAY BLACK PEOPLE IN MINNESOTA INTERACT & HARMONIZE WITH THE NATURAL WORLD AND RESOURCES AROUND US!

We are literally running out of time and conservation in our community must become a part of our culture in order to ensure the next 9 generations.

The next 9 generations is our only NATURAL link to a better and more intentional relationship with the natural world. Through our initiatives and programs, we are going to make sure that this connection happens.

SPace… it’s closer to us than Chicago!

The majority of Black youth in Minnesota do not know that Thermosphere “Space” is CLOSER to Minnesotans than Chicago. Our community suffers from an acute disassociation from Space Travel, Exploration & Natural Resourcing.

Through our ACADEMY PROGRAM & OUR CONSERVATION CAMPAIGNS we plan to introduce the next Generation of Black Space Explorers & Entrepreneurs.

THE ACADEMY

vs.

The issues

  • The youth in our community have suffered from 25 or more consecutive years of surviving WITHOUT a healthy connection to the natural world and resources. This has created one of the most physically unhealthy environments for child development.

A RENEWED and RELEVANT connection to the natural world will help our youth begin the holistic process of bettering their diet, daily routine, and consumption of the natural world.

  • GenZ face a contentious situation with guiding our planet. We believe black youth in Minnesota can play a imperative role in reversing climate destruction and pioneer new ways of educating and leading in their community.

  • Black youth in Minnesota have one of the highest unemployment rates amongst youth and young adults in Minnesota. At the very same time the Outdoor Recreation & Environmental Education Industry in Minnesota is currently making significant investments in diversifying leadership, professionals, practitioners. We want to make sure we create a strong pipeline from The Academy to the Industry.

  • In the black community, more than 60% of our school aged youth are not reading at grade level. 70% are not performing mathematics at grade level. This is an indicator of 1/3 black male youth aged 17-21 will face incarceration in their lifetime.

This is our only chance to try something new and get new results. We believe that our youth have a natural affinity to outdoor recreation, but lack trust, leadership and connection. This is something we can change.
